WiseTech Global (ASX:WTC) said Tuesday it entered a partnership with Hapag-Lloyd to trial the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology for real-time global container visibility, tracking, and data collection.
Hapag-Lloyd's fleet of 2 million containers were equipped with IoT devices that transmit location updates directly to WiseTech's ecosystem. The pilot seeks to test the ability to receive and process millions of data points daily.
WiseTech said in a statement that it will distribute the location and positioning data to Hapag-Loyd's customers via a range of channels such as the CargoWise Cargo Tracker and Container Automation solutions, with further distribution channels being planned.
The companies will review and refine the data quality, accuracy, and usability of live IoT feeds at full scale during the trial while also gathering feedback from joint customers.
WiseTech Global's shares rose 2% in recent trading on Tuesday.
