European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were modestly higher late Wednesday morning, rising 0.19% to 1,836.99 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.
From continental Europe, the gainers were led by medical device maker EDAP TMS (EDAP) and petroleum refiner Equinor (EQNR), which rose 2.1% and 1.8%, respectively. They were followed by consumer goods company Unilever (UL) and telecommunications operator Telefonica (TELFY), which were up 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively.
The decliners from continental Europe were led by internet advertising firm Criteo (CRTO) and semiconductor company Sequans Communications (SQNS), which shed 13% and 7.7%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical companies DBV Technologies (DBVT) and Cellectis (CLLS), which fell 6.5% and 6.2%, respectively.
From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca (AZN) and oil and gas company BP (BP), which advanced 3.5% and 3.3%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company Akari Therapeutics (AKTX) and utilities company National Grid (NGG), which increased 2.2% and 2.1%, respectively.
The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biotech firm Trinity Biotech (TRIB) and biopharmaceutical company Mereo BioPharma Group (MREO), which dropped 8.6% and 6.5%, respectively. They were followed by communications company WPP (WPP) and biopharmaceutical company Bicycle Therapeutics (BCYC), which lost 4% and 2.9%, respectively.
