Soft U.S. Inflation Seen as Unlikely to Sway a Cautious Fed -- Market Talk

0907 ET - January's soft U.S. inflation doesn't increase the likelihood of a Fed cut in coming months, Regan Capital's Skyler Weinand says. The reason is the stronger-than-expected labor data released earlier this week, which put January job creation at 130,000 and unemployment at 4.3%. The Fed "just can't cut rates right now with the economy having just created a six-figure jobs number." Weinand expects the Senate to confirm Warsh as Chair Powell's successor, but doubts he will be able to build consensus for rate cuts. "We could see no Fed policy rate changes this year," he says. CME's FedWatch tool shows investors mostly price at least two cuts this year. (paulo.trevisani@wsj.com; @ptrevisani)
