The German government does not plan to procure additional Lockheed Martin (LMT) F-35 fighter jets, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense told MT Newswires Friday in an emailed statement.

The denial from Germany comes after Reuters reported that the country was in negotiations to purchase additional F-35s, further to its existing order of 35 fighter jets.

The report had stated that Germany was mulling the purchase of additional F-35s as its Future Combat Air System program with France was failing to make progress.

"There are currently no concrete plans and no political decision to procure additional F-35," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said.

"We do not comment on possible procurement projects in advance of parliamentary deliberations," they added.

Lockheed Martin did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
