Meta Platforms (META) said Thursday it has developed a strategic approach to US midterm elections on its platforms, which ensures free expression, supports participation in the civic process, and offers transparency for political and social issue ads.

Advertisers promoting elections, politics, or social issues are required to complete an authorization process and include a "paid for by" and artificial intelligence content disclaimer, the company said.

New political and social issue ads during the final week of the US election campaign will be blocked, consistent with previous years, the company added.

The company said it will continue "top of feed" notifications on Facebook and Instagram to connect individuals with local and state voting information. Users above the age of 18 can sign up as contributors for Community Notes to fact check information, Meta said.
