0934 ET - Walmart's automatization opportunities, data capabilities and consumer proposition are a rare combination that support both market share gains and increased profitability, according to Roth analysts say in a research note. The retailer is dramatically separating itself from other traditional brick-and-mortar competitors, analysts Bill Kirk and Nick Anderson say, thanks to its leading digital presence and rapidly growing advertising business. Looking ahead, the analysts say ad revenue should continue to accelerate, as Walmart broadens its potential advertiser base to include partners that wouldn't have traditionally advertised with the company. "The ad opportunity, combined with absolute cost savings via automation, puts Walmart in a unique position to attack market share," the analysts write.(connor.hart@wsj.com)
