NeoVolta shares were 12% lower, at $3.28, after the company reported a second-quarter loss that was wider than last year.

The energy technology company said it had a quarterly loss of $5.5 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with a loss of $1 million, or 3 cents a share, in the same quarter last year.

Revenue for the quarter was $4.6 million, compared to $1.1 million last year.

The company said revenue growth was driven by expansion into multiple new geographic markets and distribution channels, while maintaining consistent pricing.

NeoVolta also said that the increased loss for the quarter included higher share-based compensation expense for employees, board members and consultants of $2.1 million, and non-operating charges of $1.1 million.
