Altria CEO: Smoke-Free Products Gaining Traction in U.S. -- Market Talk

1452 ET - The nicotine market in the U.S. is changing, driven by the rise of smoke-free products, Altria Group CEO Billy Gifford says during the CAGNY conference. Of the 55 million U.S. nicotine consumers, more than half now use smoke-free products and more than a third use them exclusively, he estimates. The company believes that new products in the nicotine pouch category as well as new e-vapor products will help it reach the rapidly evolving preferences of a subsect of consumers it calls "variety seekers," Gifford says. "No single product format, flavor or nicotine strength can adequately meet the full spectrum of consumer preferences," he says. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
