The U.K. government sanctioned Russian oil-pipeline operator Transneft as part of a large package of new measures, further hindering the Kremlin's efforts to secure buyers for its sanctioned oil.

The package, which includes nearly 300 additional sanctions, aims to further squeeze Russian energy revenues and restrict crude exports. Transneft, one of the world's largest oil pipeline companies, transports more than 80% of Russia's oil exports.

The measures also target 48 tankers transporting oil as part of a broader effort to curb Russia's so-called shadow fleet, which relies on an opaque web of ships to skirt Western sanctions.

"Deterring, disrupting and degrading the Russian shadow fleet  remains  a priority for this  government," the government said on Tuesday. "To the Kremlin and those seeking to profit from this illicit trade, the message is clear--Russian oil is off the market."
