消息面上，2月24日，长和在官网发布声明称，披露巴拿马政府于当地时间23日采取“强行接管”行动，派员进入由旗下附属公司巴拿马港口公司营运的巴尔博亚港和克里斯托瓦尔港，全面控制行政及营运权，并禁止公司代表进入。长和重申此举不合法，表示将通过一切法律途径追究到底。
此前1月30日，据报道，巴拿马最高法院裁定香港长和集团持有巴拿马运河两端港口运营权违宪。当日，外交部发言人表示，有关企业已经第一时间发表声明，表示该裁决有悖于巴拿马方面批准相关特许经营权的法律，企业将保留包括诉讼法律程序在内的所有权利。中方将坚决维护中方企业正当合法权益。
