The Nasdaq composite closed in on a gain of more than 1% Wednesday, which would be its fifth consecutive move of at least 1% in either direction following the annual presidential address to Congress.
According to Dow Jones Market Data, the tech-heavy index has moved at least 1.1% in each of the past four sessions following the address. In Wednesday trading, after President Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night, the Nasdaq was up about 1.3%.
In the prior four years after the speech, the index rose twice and fell twice. On average, Nasdaq was down about 0.1% following the address over the past 10 years, despite being up in six out those 10 sessions.
