Qantas Airways to Create 8,500 Jobs in Australia by 2030; Shares Down 8%

Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) said the airline is set to generate 8,500 jobs in Australia by 2030 as Qantas and Jetstar continue adding new aircraft and expanding networks, according to a Thursday filing with the Australian bourse.

The jobs to be created include a further 3,500 cabin crew and over 1,000 pilots, the filing said.

Additionally, a new Jetstar Perth cabin crew base will open in Western Australia later in the year, while Qantas will re-establish a cabin crew base in Singapore, per the filing.

Qantas Airways shares fell 8% in afternoon trade Thursday.
