Oil and gas condensate output in Kazakhstan jumps 43% m/m in February, source says

Output rebounded as the giant Tengiz field continued recovering

Fires on January 18 shut Tengiz for much of January

MOSCOW, March 2 (Reuters) - Production of oil and gas condensate in Kazakhstan jumped by around 43% in February from January, an industry source familiar with the data, said on Monday, as output at giant Tengiz oilfield continued to recover after a massive outage.

Output at Chevron-led CVX.N supergiant Tengiz oilfield, which normally accounts for some 40% of Kazakhstan's total oil production, was shut for much of the first month of the year following fires in electrical equipment on January 18.

The source said that oil and gas condensate output in Kazakhstan rose last month to 6.8 million metric tons, or 1.83 million barrels per day, from 5.3 million tons in January.

According to the source, output at Tengiz rose last month to 590,000 bpd from 240,000 bpd in January.

Output at Tengiz hit a record 3.7 million tons, or around 950,000 bpd, in August 2025.

Tengizchevroil, operator of the field, said on Monday it was progressively increasing output as conditions allow, declining to provide production figures.

The energy ministry did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

According to Reuters calculations, oil production in Kazakhstan excluding gas condensate, a type of light oil, rose in February to 1.58 million bpd from 1.09 million bpd in January.

That compares to the production quota for the country of 1.569 million bpd in January-March, set by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, a group known as OPEC+.

The quota is set to increase to 1.579 million bpd in April.
