3月4日，中国石油（601857）早盘大幅高开，开盘后不久迅速下探，盘中短暂触及跌停。截至收盘，该股上涨0.68%，最新收盘价13.24元/股，创2009年以来新高，其A股市值飙升至2.14万亿元。至此，中国石油A股市值正式超越农业银行，成为最新A股市值冠军。
证券时报·数据宝统计，按收盘时A股市值计算，A股历史上，共有23只股票登顶过A股市值冠军的位置，登顶次数最多的是工商银行（注：A股市值第1位发生变动算1次）。中国石油上一次夺得A股市值冠军，还要追溯到2018年10月，迄今已相隔7年之久。
自2019年以来，A股市值冠军基本上在工商银行和贵州茅台之间变换。2025年8月6日，农业银行收盘时A股市值升至2.11万亿元，超越工商银行，历史上首次夺得A股市值冠军宝座。截至2026年3月3日，农业银行坐上A股市值冠军宝座长达136个交易日。
