Broadcom, Target Earnings and Jobs Report: What to Watch This Week -- WSJ

A heavy slate of economic data headlines the first week of March, culminating in the February jobs report. Investors will also weigh earnings from companies including Broadcom and Target, as well as market fallout from the weekend strikes on Iran.

Today

-- Earnings (a.m.): Norwegian Cruise Line

-- Economic data: The Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing purchasing managers index for February

-- Homeland Security shutdown: The partial government closure continues.

-- Legal: The Justice Department's antitrust trial against Live Nation kicks off. The DOJ is seeking to break up the Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger, alleging an illegal monopoly.

-- Other corporate: Apple's three-day event begins, at which the iPhone maker is expected to unveil several new products.

-- Overseas: The People's Bank of China is expected to reduce the risk reserve banks must set aside on certain foreign-exchange contracts. The move is viewed as a way to combat the yuan's rally.

-- Earnings: AutoZone, Best Buy, CrowdStrike, Progressive, Target

Wednesday, March 4

-- Earnings: Abercrombie & Fitch, Bath & Body Works, Broadcom, Okta

-- Economic data: ADP's national employment report for February. ISM's February services PMI.

-- Federal Reserve: The "Beige Book" economic overview is due at 2 p.m. ET.

-- White House: Major tech companies are expected to meet with President Trump to discuss data-center power costs.

Thursday, March 5

-- Earnings: Costco, Gap, Kroger, Marvell

-- Economic data: Preliminary productivity and costs data for last quarter, plus weekly initial jobless claims.

-- Fed: Vice Chair Michelle Bowman is due to speak at 1:15 p.m.

Friday, March 6

-- Economic data: Nonfarm payrolls for February are due at 8:30 a.m. Also: December's manufacturing and trade inventories and sales estimates, plus the retail sales report for January.
