马斯克转发Starlink官方账号的帖子称：“星链移动（Starlink Mobile）的下一代卫星将从太空提供 5G 速度的服务，数据密度是当前 V1 代卫星的 100 倍。
V2 卫星将无缝支持流媒体播放、网页浏览、高速应用和语音通话，就像连接到地面网络一样。”
今年1月9日，美国联邦通信委员会（FCC）正式批准SpaceX额外部署7500颗第二代星链卫星，至此，SpaceX已累计获得15000颗第二代星链卫星的官方授权。
第二代星链卫星相较于第一代具备显著技术优势，包括支持更高通信容量、更低信号延迟、采用更先进卫星构型，同时新增支持Ku、Ka、V、E、W等多个频段的运行能力。
这些升级不仅使卫星能够同时兼容固定卫星服务与移动卫星服务，更通过降低轨道高度（新增轨道壳层范围为340公里至485公里）等关键措施，进一步优化信号覆盖范围与稳定性，显著提升服务性能及用户体验。
