ChainCatcher 消息，加拿大 Nanaimo 一名居民去年底因收到推广远程股票交易工作的短信，通过加密货币 ATM 存入约 5000 加元（约 3600 美元）后遭遇诈骗。今年早些时候，该受害者在网上看到一则伪装成 RCMP 公告的信息，鼓励欺诈受害者报案。
提交表格后，一名自称律师的人致电称已找到与受害者相关的两个加密货币账户，可帮助追回约 6 万美元的所谓收益。Nanaimo RCMP 媒体关系官 Gary O'Brien 表示，RCMP 不会就发现的加密货币账户联系个人，不会与私人公司合作追回损失资金，也不会要求任何形式的付款来调查欺诈。
区块链安全公司 BlockSec 联合创始人兼 CEO Andy Zhou 表示，此类手法被称为“虚假追回服务骗局”，具有系统性特征。骗子通常掌握原始诈骗中收集的受害者信息，有组织的欺诈团伙会流通此前已汇款的受害者名单，使这些人成为二次诈骗的目标。
冒用执法机构品牌之所以有效，是因为利用了“权威偏见”心理机制。加拿大警方自 2022 年起已开展加密货币调查培训。
