Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz says this ski season's challenging weather likely won't hurt engagement with the sport over the long term, given people recognize that tough conditions one year won't change the likelihood of a great season the next. "Even in this year where we had tough conditions out west, we obviously had really strong conditions in the Northeast," Katz says during a call with analysts. "People understand that there is a little variability to that." Still, he acknowledges that this year's conditions were particularly tough. "Since we haven't seen a year like this, it's hard to know exactly how this will play out," he says. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
