智通财经APP获悉，由于未能就薪酬纠纷达成协议，嘉能可澳大利亚铜精炼厂的工人们威胁称将从周五开始罢工。澳大利亚工人联盟(AWU)周三发表声明称，已通知嘉能可公司，如果该公司不提高工资，员工将停止工作并罢工。该联盟表示，嘉能可支付给工人的工资比附近其他公司工厂的工人低近15%。
位于昆士兰州汤斯维尔的这家精炼厂每年生产多达30万吨成品铜，是澳大利亚最大的精炼厂之一。它加工第三方原材料，其中包括来自必和必拓(BHP.US)奥林匹克坝矿区的部分原材料。
过去十年，中国铜冶炼和精炼产能的迅猛扩张导致全球范围内许多成本较高的设施关闭，其中包括澳大利亚的设施。嘉能可公司从澳大利亚联邦和州政府获得了6亿澳元(约合4.29亿美元)的救助资金，以维持汤斯维尔精炼厂及其位于芒特艾萨的配套冶炼厂的运营。
澳大利亚工人联盟表示，嘉能可和工会将于周四举行最后一次会议。澳大利亚工人联盟昆士兰分会秘书Stacey Schinnerl在声明中表示：“尽管嘉能可公司在经济压力初现时便会剥离资产、解雇工人，但我们的成员一直在努力确保这家炼油厂拥有未来。”
