Racura Oncology (ASX:RAC) received governance approval from Monash Health for its phase one clinical trial assessing the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of RC220, its proprietary formulation of bisantrene, in combination with osimertinib, in patients with non-small cell lung cancer who have activating epidermal growth factor receptor mutations, according to a Monday Australian bourse filing.

Osimertinib is the current standard of care treatment for non-small cell lung cancer with defined epidermal growth factor receptor mutations, the company said in an earlier filing.

Teams from Racura Oncology, Monash Health, and Contract Research Organisation Beyond Drug Development will meet at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Victoria, for site initiation and training on March 23. This will allow the first patients to be recruited into the trial.

The secondary and exploratory endpoints include progression-free survival, overall survival, changes in levels of circulating tumor DNA, and changes in the cancer-specific mutations present in patients.

Its shares were up 2% in recent trading on Monday.
