据路透社报道，当地时间3月14日，美国特斯拉公司首席执行官马斯克表示，特斯拉的人工智能芯片制造项目Terafab将在七天内启动。马斯克透露，Terafab芯片工厂将类似特斯拉超级工厂，但规模要大得多。
马斯克去年曾透露，特斯拉可能不得不建造一座“巨大的芯片工厂”来生产人工智能芯片。在2025年特斯拉年度股东大会上，马斯克阐述了潜在的芯片制造计划。当时，马斯克表示特斯拉可能会与英特尔合作，他称：“你知道，也许我们会和英特尔做点什么。”他补充道：“我们还没有签署任何协议，但值得与英特尔进行讨论。”
目前，特斯拉正在设计其第五代AI芯片（AI5），以推动其自动驾驶计划。马斯克此前曾预告过这款芯片，并对供应商的产能提出担忧。“即使我们按照芯片供应商的最佳情况推演，产量仍然不够”，马斯克在2025年特斯拉年度股东大会上表示，“所以我认为我们可能不得不建立一座‘Terafab’。它就像‘超级工厂’（Gigafactory），但规模要大得多。这件事非做不可。”
