知情人士表示，印度政府在与伊朗进行谈判，优先目标是确保6艘载有液化石油气（LPG）的运输船安全通过霍尔木兹海峡。

　　因讨论内容未公开而不愿具名的上述知情人士称，这6艘船合计运载27万吨这种用于烹饪的燃料。由于印度国内LPG短缺加剧，政府将上述船只通航的优先级置于运载原油和液化天然气（LNG）的船只之上。

　　印度进口LPG约有90%来自中东。霍尔木兹海峡事实上被封堵后，餐馆、家庭以及使用LPG作为原料生产塑料的石化企业都受到冲击。
