美国国家公路交通安全管理局(NHTSA)升级了对特斯拉名为“完全自动驾驶”(FSD)的部分自动驾驶系统的调查，理由是多起事故表明该技术在能见度降低的情况下可能存在缺陷。NHTSA在其网站上发布的一份备忘录中表示，对这些事故的审查引发了人们的担忧，即当车辆摄像头的能见度降低时，该系统无法检测路况并适当地警告驾驶员。该机构本周将这项始于2024年的调查升级为所谓的工程分析。
此举可能为NHTSA最终寻求召回提供依据，并加强了对特斯拉未来自动驾驶和无人驾驶出租车业务所依赖技术的审查。特斯拉首席执行官埃隆·马斯克曾表示，特斯拉开发自动驾驶技术的能力最终将决定公司的价值是高不可攀还是“几乎一文不值”。
NHTSA最新发布的备忘录披露了此次调查，其中指出涉及特斯拉自动驾驶系统的事故共计9起，高于2024年首次启动调查时的4起。NHTSA审查的事故中，“特斯拉的FSD未能检测到影响其视野的常见路况，也未能在摄像头性能下降时发出警报，直到事故发生前才发出警报。”
NHTSA还表示，特斯拉在试图识别更多类似事故时，援引了公司“数据和标签方面的局限性”，NHTSA认为这可能导致某些时期事故数量被低估。
