U.S. Stocks to Watch: Meta, Synopsys, Super Micro, Newmont and More

Synopsys $(SNPS)$: Activist Elliott Investment Management has built a multibillion-dollar stake in the chip-design software maker, the Journal reported. Synopsys shares climbed 2% premarket.

Super Micro Computer $(SMCI)$: Shares in the server maker continued their decline, falling 5% premarket, after the U.S. charged a co-founder of the company and two others in connection with an alleged scheme to smuggle Nvidia chips to China.

Newmont $(NEM)$; SSR Mining $(SSRM)$: Gold-mining shares fell sharply premarket as the price of the precious metal continued to fall.

Venture Global $(VG)$; Cheniere $(LNG)$: Shares in the liquefied-natural-gas exporters, potential beneficiaries of disruption to Qatar's exports of the fuel, rose premarket.

BNP Paribas (BNP), Unicredit (UCG), ING $(ING)$: European banking shares fell as the war in Iran stoked concerns over economic growth. These three were down roughly 3%.

Meta Platforms (META): CEO Mark Zuckerberg is building an AI agent to help him do his job as part of the social-media company's embrace of AI, the Journal reported. Meta shares were down 1% premarket.

Telecom Italia (IT:TIT); Poste Italiane (IT:PST): Italy's state-controlled postal service Poste Italiane made a $12.50 billion offer to acquire Telecom Italia. Shares in the telecommunications company rose around 4%; Poste Italiane fell 8%.

Roche $(ROP)$; Chugai Pharmaceutical (JP:4519): The Swiss drug company is stopping clinical development of a drug candidate for two muscle diseases, but plans to continue evaluating it for obesity, the company's Japanese majority owner, Chugai, said. Roche shares dipped 1%; Chugai lost more amid a broad decline in Japanese equities.
