Trane Technologies (TT) said Tuesday it completed laboratory testing for two of its rooftop unit models as part of a commercial building technology challenge hosted by the US Department of Energy.

The government plan encourages the development of advanced units that can potentially cut energy expenses in half compared to standard equipment, the company said.

The equipment will now undergo field trials at installation sites in Illinois and Wisconsin to evaluate real-world reliability and energy savings, Trane said.

The company also said the systems can potentially cut power expenses by up to 50% compared to standard equipment and operate between the 10-to-14 and 15-to-25 ton capacity ranges.
