Designer Brands 4Q Comparable Sales Fall, Hurt by Direct-to-Consumer Weakness

Designer Brands reported lower comparable sales for the fiscal fourth quarter, dragged down by a decline in its direct-to-consumer channel.

The footwear-and-accessories company posted a quarterly loss of $20 million, or 40 cents a share, compared with a loss of $38.2 million, or 80 cents a share, the year prior.

On an adjusted basis, the company reported a loss of 31 cents a share.

Net sales were $713.6 million, about even with the prior year. Comparable sales fell 1.9%, including a 1.7% decline in the retail segment and an 11% decline in the brand portfolio direct-to-consumer channel.

The company guided for fiscal 2026 net sales to be down 1% to up 1%, and for fiscal-year earnings of 28 cents to 38 cents a share.

Shares fell 7.1% to $5 in premarket trading.
