鲍威尔在哈佛大学的一次活动中表示：“我们正面临中东地区的事件，这无疑会影响汽油价格，我们感觉我们的政策处于良好位置，可以让我们观望事态如何发展。”
鲍威尔指出，现在为应对油价飙升而加息可能会在未来产生负面影响。
他补充道：“等到货币政策紧缩的影响显现时，油价冲击可能早已过去，而届时在已不适当的情况下给经济施加压力。因此，倾向的做法是对任何形式的供给冲击保持观望。”
