Metro Enacts Contingency Plan to Cope With Strike at Distribution Center

Food and pharmacy retailer Metro implemented a contingency plan to make sure shelves remain stocked at its stores during a coming strike.

The company said Monday unionized employees at its produce distribution center near Montreal, and at its transportation and head office, have decided to strike. Metro has been in negotiations for several months and said it remained committed to reaching a negotiated settlement that meets the needs of employees and customers in a highly competitive market.

Metro, which runs a network of roughly 1,000 grocery stores under banners including Metro, Food Basics and Premiere Moisson, said its contingency plan would ensure stores continue to meet the needs of customers.
