作为全球顶级液化天然气出口国之一，澳大利亚将启动一项调查，审查雪佛龙、伍德赛德能源集团、桑托斯等油气企业的税收政策。伊朗冲突推高了能源价格，为能源生产商带来了巨额意外收益。
澳大利亚参议院周一同意成立特别委员会，审查油气行业的税收政策，执政的工党参议员支持了绿党提出的相关动议。
该委员会将由绿党参议员斯特夫・霍金斯 - 梅牵头。她上周呼吁对天然气出口征收至少 25% 的税款，据其估算，该提案每年可带来约 170 亿澳元（合 116 亿美元）的财政收入。
随着中东冲突推动全球能源价格飙升，大型能源企业利润大增，澳大利亚国内就是否提高资源出口税收的争论日趋激烈。部分政客、工会及倡议团体呼吁提高税率，包括开征意外利得税，认为出口企业正从战时价格暴涨中获利。
绿党领袖拉丽莎・沃特斯参议员周一表示：“此次调查将严查那些偷税漏税的大型天然气企业，戳穿它们不缴税的借口，并为即将发布的预算案推动更公平的税收政策凝聚共识。”“在民众艰难支付账单、生活成本飙升之际，天然气企业不应坐享其成、逃避税负。”
