Atos Group said it was reviewing a U.S. court decision that would require its Syntel unit to pay $236.9 million in compensation to Cognizant.
The compensation relates to legal proceedings initiated in 2015 between Syntel and Cognizant's subsidiary TriZetto, which was before Atos acquired Syntel in 2018.
Atos said it was reviewing last Friday's pre-judgment decision from the U.S. district court for the southern district of New York in the TriZetto re-trial. It reserves its right to appeal, it added.
The court also awarded pre-judgment interest on compensatory damages under the New York statutory rate of 9% accruing from January 2018, Atos said. This will be added to the $236.9 million.
Atos said the court reduced previously awarded punitive damages but that this is subject to TriZetto's acceptance. If it doesn't accept the reduction there will be a new trial on punitive damages, Atos said.
Atos said the charges wouldn't have a material adverse impact on the company's financial position.
