Pop Mart's Aggressive Product Launch Likely to Weigh on Collectors' Interest -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Apr 15

0750 GMT - Pop Mart's aggressive product launch could lead to diminished interest in the long term, Deutsche Bank analyst Sammi Xu says in a note. The analyst reckons that by prioritizing sales volume over perceived scarcity, the strategy has inadvertently raised the bar for repurchases among Pop Mart's dedicated collectors. "While an intense product pipeline may initially boost demand, its impact will likely diminish later," she says. Pop Mart is set to release its 1Q operational data in May and its overseas market sales likely fell sequentially but still more-than doubled on year, Xu says. Meanwhile, investors will focus on Pop Mart's home-appliance product launch this month. Shares are last 1.4% higher at HK$163.60. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
