据知情人士称，美国联邦贸易委员会（FTC）正在与几家大型广告公司就一项潜在的和解方案进行谈判，以了结一项调查，该调查涉及这些公司是否通过协调抵制包括埃隆·马斯克的X平台在内的多个平台而违反了联邦反垄断法。
消息人士称，根据这项和解方案，包括电通、阳狮和WPP在内的几家广告公司将承诺，不会因为媒体平台上可能出现政治内容而将客户的广告预算从这些平台上转移走。
不过，个别广告商仍然可以自由选择不在特定网站上投放广告。
去年，美国联邦贸易委员会批准了宏盟集团（Omnicom）以135亿美元收购竞争对手Interpublic的交易，条件是新公司不得与其他公司达成协议，根据政治内容引导广告资金流向或远离出版商。
报道称，美国联邦贸易委员会与广告公司之间的谈判仍在进行中，仍有可能最终无法达成协议。
去年，美国联邦贸易委员会加大了对广告商抵制行为的调查力度，将矛头指向了像 Media Matters 这样的社会监督机构。这些机构此前曾报道，一些知名品牌出现在亿万富翁埃隆·马斯克的 X 社交媒体平台上的极右翼极端主义帖子旁边。
