美国财政部长贝森特在接受英国媒体采访时表示，伊朗战争“值得付出一点经济代价”，而他即将与英国财政大臣里夫斯举行一场可能气氛紧张的会谈。
“如果伦敦遭到核武器袭击，全球GDP会受到多大冲击？”贝森特表示。“相比短期预测，我更关注长期安全。”
两国关系看起来日益紧张。周二，里夫斯以迄今最强烈的措辞批评了特朗普在中东发动的战争，以及该战争对全球经济造成的破坏。
她表示，“我确实感到非常沮丧和愤怒，美国在没有明确退出计划、也没有清晰目标的情况下就发动了这场战争。结果现在霍尔木兹海峡被封锁了。”
这位英国财政大臣目前正在华盛顿参加国际货币基金组织（IMF）和世界银行春季会议，并计划于周三与贝森特会面。
她还说，“没有理智的人会支持伊朗政权，但在没有明确目标的情况下发动冲突，我认为这是愚蠢的。这种做法正在影响英国、美国以及全球各地的家庭。”
