Meta is increasing the prices of its virtual reality Quest headsets as it contends with the rising costs of memory chips.
The 128GB version of the Meta Quest 3S, the 256 GB Meta Quest 3S and the 512 GB Meta Quest 3 will now cost $349.99, $449.99 and $599.99, respectively, Meta said.
Meta said it increased the prices in response to the surging costs of critical components used for building virtual reality headsets.
Memory chips, in particular, have become highly sought after by companies using them to power massive data centers for artificial intelligence models, The Wall Street Journal reported. That demand has caused the prices of memory chips to soar in recent months.
In January, Meta laid off roughly 10% of its staff from its Reality Labs division, which develops the Quest headsets and other virtual and augmented reality technology, The Wall Street Journal reported.
