Tesla (TSLA) won European type approval for its advanced driver assistance technology called Full Self Driving Supervised with provisional validity in the country, Dutch regulator RDW said Friday.
The supervised driving software manages various driving functions but is not fully autonomous, requiring operators to remain attentive and responsible, and internal sensors monitor eye contact and hand readiness to ensure operators can instantly resume manual steering if needed, the regulator said.
The driving system issues warnings for inattention and will temporarily lock out users who repeatedly fail to monitor the road, RDW said.
The safety certification follows more than a year and a half of testing across closed tracks and public streets, the agency added.
