自2021年12月3日开通运营以来，在两国铁路部门密切协作下，中老铁路运营稳定。截至今年4月12日，累计发送旅客突破7070万人次，运输货物突破8150万吨，其中跨境货物超1860万吨，国际黄金大通道效应日益凸显。

客运量质齐升。今年一季度，中老铁路发送旅客604万人次，同比增长7.6%，其中跨境旅客11.2万人次，同比增长32.4%。进入4月份，中国西双版纳、老挝万象等地庆祝一年一度的泼水节，客流增长明显。

货运强劲增长。跨境货物列车每日开行数量由开通初期的2列增至最高23列，列车牵引吨数由2000吨增至2800吨，跨境运输商品种类拓展到3800余种。今年一季度，中老铁路运输货物618万吨，其中跨境货物150万吨。

据悉，下一步，中老两国铁路部门将密切合作，持续管好用好中老铁路，加强运输组织，优化列车开行方案，提升客货服务质量，与海关、边检等部门协调联动，有序推动沿线商贸物流、土地开发工作，强化汛期设备维护检修和环境综合整治，不断扩展中老铁路“黄金大通道”辐射效应。
