4月13日，美国总统特朗普上周日表示，石油和汽油价格可能会在11月中期选举前一直维持高位——罕见地承认自己六周前作出的对伊朗发动袭击这一决定可能带来的政治代价。当在一次采访中被问及到秋季油价是否会走低时，特朗普表示，“可能会（降低），也可能一样，或许再高一点，但应该会跟当前水平差不多。”
根据GasBuddy的数据，4月大部分时间，美国加油站普通汽油均价已超过每加仑4美元。而2月份美国汽油还徘徊在每加仑3美元以下，过去一年也从未超过3.25美元。此前数周，特朗普一直声称油价飙升只是短期现象。不过，有美国官员透露，他的高级顾问们都清楚这场战争带来的经济影响。
