据知情人士透露，美国检察官周二突然造访美联储位于华盛顿的办公室；此前司法部正调查美联储主席杰罗姆·鲍威尔和该央行的翻新工程。
据一位未获授权公开谈论此事的人士透露，司法部的三名官员试图进入施工现场，但因安全和其他许可程序而被拒绝进入。
此次造访加剧了美联储和司法部之间的紧张关系，这两个机构几个月来一直陷入法律争议，甚至可能影响美国总统唐纳德·特朗普提名由凯文·沃什接替鲍威尔、出任美联储主席的进程，鲍威尔的主席任期将于5月到期。
代表美联储的外部律师Robert Hur已致函司法部，对此次访查表达异议，并要求未来所有沟通应通过既有法律管道进行。
Hur在彭博取得的一封信中写道，“正如您所知，首席法官Boasberg已裁定，贵单位对美联储整修项目的关注属于借口。如欲挑战该裁定，应循司法途径，而非试图绕过程序”。他并要求司法部承诺，未经律师在场，不得直接与美联储方面接触。
