其中，海湾国家引领全球人口增长，卡塔尔以惊人的423%的人口增长率位居世界第一，人口总数从约59.4万增长到310万。阿联酋紧随其后，增长率高达250%，巴林(+154%)、科威特(+139%)和阿曼(+129%)也位列前十。然而，这些人口激增几乎完全是由外来劳务移民推动的。
除海湾地区以外，人口增长最快的地区集中在撒哈拉以南非洲。赤道几内亚(+167%)、尼日尔(+157%)和巴布亚新几内亚(+150%)位列前五。
与此形成鲜明对比的是，东欧大部分地区正经历着持续的人口下降。自2000年以来，保加利亚、拉脱维亚、摩尔多瓦和立陶宛的人口均减少了约五分之一或更多。乌克兰的人口降幅最为显著，达到-33%，从2000年的4870万减少到预计2025年的3290万。除了长期的经济因素外，俄乌冲击也加速了乌克兰的人口下降。
