此前曾扬言要阻挠下一任美联储主席提名通过的共和党参议员汤姆・蒂利斯，于周二表态，自己完全支持凯文・沃什出任美联储主席。

　　蒂利斯表示：“以史为鉴，倘若有人认为总统任命人选后，自身便能独断掌控一切事务，那这名主席必然履职不力。你曾在多位优秀前任手下任职，我相信你会坚守本分、正确履职。”

　　但他同时提出附加条件：除非美国司法部终止针对美联储主席杰罗姆・鲍威尔的刑事调查，否则他不会放行沃什进入后续提名流程。该项调查缘起美联储总部耗资数十亿美元的办公楼翻新工程相关事宜。

　　沃什的提名要进入参议院全体大会审议，必须先获得参议院银行委员会的多数赞成票。该委员会由 13 名共和党议员、11 名民主党议员组成。一旦缺少蒂利斯的支持，委员会投票将形成 12 票赞成、12 票反对的僵持局面，此次提名直接作废。

　　谈及华盛顿特区检察官珍妮・皮罗发起的这项调查时，蒂利斯称：

　　“我不满的点在于，某位联邦检察官仅凭一己臆想，偏偏在主席职位即将空缺的几个月前，无端对鲍威尔主席发起调查。”

　　“叫停这场调查，我就支持你顺利上任。”
