AbbVie is sponsoring BioLabs's new 40,000 square-foot lab and office facility in Toronto.
The biopharmaceutical company said Monday that it has agreed to become the founding sponsor of BioLabs University of Toronto to accelerate life sciences research. The facility will be a fully equipped laboratory and collaboration space for up to 30 early stage biotechnology startups, AbbVie said.
As part of its partnership with BioLabs, AbbVie will also offer an annual innovators award to an early stage biotech recipient, granting them mentorship and a year of laboratory and office space, the company said.
"This new facility will help provide Canadian biotech entrepreneurs with the infrastructure, mentorship and collaborative environment needed to translate promising science into real-world health solutions," said Christian Schubert, vice president and global head of AbbVie.
