Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will go to Islamabad for talks with Iranian officials, while Vice President JD Vance will be on standby to travel if there is progress in the negotiations, a White House official said. Vance was scheduled to travel to the Pakistani capital on Tuesday, but canceled the trip after it became unclear if an Iranian delegation would also attend.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also due to travel to Islamabad on Friday. It is not clear if the American delegates will meet directly with Araghchi. Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, who the White House regards as the head of the Iranian delegation and Vance's counterpart, will also not be there, the official said.
