美国财政部长斯科特·贝森特批评杰罗姆·鲍威尔美联储主席任期届满后仍留在理事会的决定，称这相当于打破了该央行的传统。
贝森特周三在福克斯商业频道谈到鲍威尔时说：“对于一个自称是制度主义者、关心美联储规范的人来说，这种做法非常不寻常。这违反了美联储的所有规范。”
鲍威尔在当天早些时候宣布他将在主席任期届满后继续留在该央行担任理事，具体时长待定。
鲍威尔表示，他担心美联储会受到一系列法律攻击，一旦对美联储大楼翻新项目的调查“真正结束”，他就会离开。

贝森特表示，此举是对沃什和特朗普挑选的理事米歇尔·鲍曼和克里斯托弗·沃勒的“侮辱”，“认为其他共和党提名者不在乎美联储的机制，只有他一个人才能维护美联储的完整性”。
