新西兰一名政府高级部长表示，受伊朗局势冲突影响，本国燃油储备不足的风险凸显，新西兰正考虑在马来西亚和新加坡储备燃油。
新西兰资源部长肖恩・琼斯在采访中称：“新西兰本土没有富余的储备库容。我们已有备选方案，相关官员已调研离岸储油的可行性，专业机构给出的方案之一就是选址马来西亚与新加坡。”
2022 年，奥克兰北部马斯登角唯一一座炼油厂关停，新西兰丧失了大量燃油储备能力。而新加坡及马来西亚南部周边地区，是亚洲重要的燃油精炼与仓储枢纽。
伊朗局势冲突升级、霍尔木兹海峡通行受阻，对高度依赖中东油气资源的亚洲地区造成巨大压力，也引发各国争相锁定能源库存、保障供应稳定。
上月，新西兰总理克里斯托弗・拉克森领导的政府，与新西兰航道基础设施公司签约，重启原炼油厂旧址储罐用于柴油储备。该企业在旧址运营着燃油进口码头。
新西兰政府上周还与澳洲燃油企业安宝旗下子公司齐能源达成协议，额外锁定可满足 9 天需求的柴油供应量。目前该国还在评估是否需要进一步增补航空煤油储备。
