Autobacs Seven (TYO:9832) has not made any decision regarding a plan to jointly sell China-made electric vehicles in Japan with Chery Automobile (HKG:9973), following a media report on the potential partnership, the company said in a Monday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The company said it has invested in Singapore-based Electric Mobility Technology, which develops and sells new energy vehicles, but discussions on areas such as vehicle sales and maintenance through Autobacs' retail network remain under consideration.

Autobacs said it views zero-emission vehicles, including EVs, as a key growth area under its "Beyond AUTOBACS Vision 2032" strategy and has been expanding partnerships with overseas automakers and startups in areas such as EV maintenance and micromobility.

Earlier media reports said Chery and Autobacs were preparing to launch EV sales in Japan from 2027 through a joint venture that would use Autobacs' nationwide store network to support sales and after-service operations.
