路透波哥大5月20日 - 哥伦比亚环境部周三表示，已批准由国营石油公司Ecopetrol（ECO.CN）、贝克休斯（BKR.O）和公用事业公司CHEC共同主导的Nereidas地热项目勘探阶段的环境可行性，此举有望为这个安第斯山脉国家开辟一种全天候的可再生能源。
该项目位于卡尔达斯省的鲁伊斯火山群，是哥伦比亚首个大规模地热勘探计划。
该部表示，已批准从国家公园外的保护性森林保留区中划出部分区域，但附带条件，仅限于勘探工作，且须遵守环境保护、生态修复和水资源管理要求。
对于近年来约三分之二至七成发电量来自水力的哥伦比亚而言，地热能可提供一种低排放的基础负荷电力来源，且受降雨波动的影响较小。
埃科佩特罗尔及其合作伙伴在2023年宣布建立联盟时表示，"涅瑞伊达斯"项目最终可产生50至100兆瓦的可再生能源，足以满足超过25万户家庭的用电需求。
环境部还表示，已针对地热勘探和开发项目发布了新的环境技术规范，明确了该行业的技术、环境和社会要求。今年早些时候，这些规则的修订草案已发布以征求意见。
