1908 ET - Urban Outfitters CEO Richard Hayne says the company's customers continue to spend, with their shopping behavior remaining remarkably consistent in the past few years--including the current year to date--despite turmoil in the economic environment. "They remain positive and continue to engage enthusiastically with our brands, responding to fashion, newness and seeking the quality and creativity that define what we do," Hayne says during a call with analysts. The company's customers tend to be higher-income, with most landing in the top half of the so-called K-shaped economy, he says. "Our customers are in excellent shape. They are financially secure and are more interested in fashion than price," he says. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
