The woman who plunged into a New York City manhole died of scald burns and other injuries, authorities said Wednesday.

Donike Gocaj, 56 years old, sustained burns with inhalational thermal injury and blunt force trauma to her torso, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Authorities ruled her death an accident.

Gocaj stepped into an exposed manhole on Monday night outside a store near Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan. Utility company Con Edison said a passing truck likely dislodged the manhole's cover about 12 minutes before Gocaj parked her car and fell into the open shaft.

Con Edison said it reviewed video footage showing a multi-axle truck passing over the intersection that appeared to move the cover.
