美国航空集团（American Airlines）是最新一家采用星链在空中提供高速互联网服务的航空公司。
这家总部位于得州沃思堡的航空公司周二表示，计划从明年初开始在500多架单通道空客飞机上安装该服务，这占其机队的很大一部分。
近年来，快速、免费的Wi-Fi已成为乘客必备的机上设施。由马斯克的SpaceX运营的星链服务已成为航空公司的主要供应商。该服务已签约的客户包括美联航（United Airlines）、美国西南航空（Southwest Airlines）和阿拉斯加航空（Alaska Air Group）。
美国航空表示，率先在其部分窄体机队上提供星链服务，是向客户推出该服务的最快方式；这部分机队包括新交付的A321neo和A321XLR喷气式客机。
今年早些时候，该航空公司开始通过其他卫星互联网提供商向其常旅客计划会员提供免费Wi-Fi，该服务由美国电话电报公司（AT&T）赞助。星链服务同样不会向AAdvantage计划会员收取额外费用。
星链通过近地轨道上的约1万颗卫星提供互联网连接，现已成为SpaceX的主要收入驱动力。达美航空公司（Delta Air Lines）最近宣布，计划使用亚马逊新兴的低轨卫星互联网业务为其部分机队提供Wi-Fi。
