AutoZone's Earnings Drag Down Competitors -- Market Talk
Dow Jones
May 27
1237 ET - AutoZone's disappointing 3Q earnings are weighing on competitors' stocks. Advance Auto Parts falls 4.7% and O'Reilly Automotive is down 3.4% to go with AutoZone's 10% decline. AutoZone says that its sales growth slowed as the quarter progressed due to unseasonably cool weather that hurt demand in heat-related categories. The company posted domestic same-store sales growth of 4.1%, while some were expecting a figure over 5% given recent strong results from O'Reilly and Advanced Auto Parts amid the benefit from tax refunds, says D.A. Davidson analyst Michael Baker. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
